A well-trained workforce attracts new businesses to Jersey City and helps sustain the growth of companies that currently reside here. The Jersey City Urban Enterprise Zone program works with area agencies to provide job training for Jersey City residents.
Among the UEZ-sponsored job training programs are:

Customer Service Skills Center helps area residents develop or polish their skills in dealing with customers and clients, especially in the retail sales, hospitality, food service, finance/banking/insurance, car-rental and airport-related industries. The 120-hour training program offers technical and life skills. Located at 779 Bergen Avenue.

Jersey City Construction Apprentice Program provides Jersey City residents with the academic studies and hands-on training needed in plumbing, heating/air conditioning, carpentry, and electrical work to satisfy the trade labor union requirements. Visit the Jersey City “One Stop” Career Center at 438 Summit Avenue.

New Jersey Small Business Development Center at New Jersey City University is part of a network dedicated to helping small businesses to expand operations, manage growth and/or launch new ventures. The organization provides training and consultation on finance, marketing and managing. Located at 285 West Side Avenue.

Rising Tide Capital is a non-profit community organization whose Community Business Academy supports traditionally underserved entrepreneurs (women, formerly incarcerated individuals, minorities, the unemployed and working poor, and immigrants and refugees) with business development services. www.risingtidecapital.org

Women Rising Community Partnerships in Hotel Employment is conducted in partnership with Hudson County Community College. In the 15-week training, participants focus on acquiring the skills and education needed for placement into entry-level hotel positions with good wages and opportunities for advancement. www.womenrising.org
