Keeping our streets safe and secure makes the Urban Enterprise Zone a better place to shop, dine, work and live! The UEZ funding is assisting in putting—and keeping—up to 57 police officers on patrol in Jersey City.
Since January 2008, more than $5.5 million in UEZ Assistance Funds has been earmarked by the Jersey City Urban Enterprise Zone program to add up to 48 new police officers to the Jersey City Police Department. This will enhance the police presence throughout the City’s main business areas — Central Avenue, Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, Newark Avenue, Route 440, Westside Avenue, Ocean Avenue, Exchange Place, McGinley Square, Historic Downtown, Washington Boulevard, Monticello Avenue, Kennedy Boulevard, and Newport. The officers, who work all three shifts, patrol the Urban Enterprise Zone via vehicles, on foot and/or bicycles.

The UEZ Assistance funding enables Jersey City to avert layoffs without increasing the burden on taxpayers.
