Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) Neighborhood Watch

in safeguarding the
residents and businesses
of Jersey City.
CCTV Neighborhood Watch was initiated in Jersey City in 2001, and has been extremely useful in safeguarding our residents and businesses. Utilizing dozens of closed-circuit television cameras throughout the city, the program has been a great deterrent for criminal activity, and has aided in investigating crimes and in obtaining convictions where the cameras have recorded criminal activities. It has helped save hundreds of thousands of dollars in court expenses.

Police-trained civilian employees at CCTV’s headquarters monitor the cameras 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to see around corners, and up-and-down streets for more than two blocks. The cameras’ images are digitally recorded and stored on the CCTV system.

The program works in cooperation of the Jersey City Police Department, Hudson County Prosector's Office and the New Jersey State Attorney General. The Jersey City Economic Development Corporation, through the Urban Enterprise Zone Assistance Fund, funds the building, maintenance and management of the systems. The JCEDC and a Civilian Oversight Committee ensure proper use of the system, protecting against privacy infringements.

As technology rapidly changes, JCEDC and the UEZ program are moving forward, expanding the system into additional commercial areas of the city and updating the equipment to better serve the citizens and businesses in Jersey City.
