Each day hundreds of thousands of women, men and children travel in and out of Jersey City. To bid them all warmer “welcomes” and “farewells,” the City of Jersey City has undertaken the Gateway Beautification Program at nearly two-dozen entryway sites throughout the city.
The Gateway Beautification program is funded by the Jersey City Urban Enterprise Zone Program, and includes the planting and maintenance of trees, shrubs, evergreens and flowering plants, and the installation of paved walkways and crosswalks, decorative steel fencing, flag and banner poles, and lighting. The program is designed not only to enhance the appearance of the Gateway areas, but also to make them safer.

The Jersey City Division of Economic Development, a division that falls under the auspices of the Jersey City Department of Housing, Economic Development and Commerce, is responsible for developing the Gateway Beautification sites.
